As Microsoft is pivoting towards the cloud with their new generation of certifications primarily focusing on Azure, all of the Microsoft Technical Associate (MTA) exams are retiring as of June 30, 2022.
What You Need to Know?
While the MTA exams won’t be retiring for roughly 15 months from now, you must purchase your exam voucher no later than June 30, 2021. If don’t, then you won’t be able to take the exam. This is Microsoft’s way of “soft” retiring the exam because anyone who wants to take an MTA exam after June 30, 2021 and doesn’t have a purchased exam voucher won’t be able to.
Does This Make MTA Certifications Worthless?
Definitely not. MTA certifications will remain on your Microsoft transcript, even after the exams retire. Specifically, they’ll remain in the active section of your Microsoft transcript for two years from June 30, 2022 retirement date; afterwards, they’ll will be moved to the “Certification History” section of your transcript.
Additionally, fundamental topics like networking and security don’t change. Yes, they evolve, but the fundamental topics stay the same. So, they’ll show you know these basics to prospective employers. So, even in 2022 and beyond, these certifications will continue to hold value and look good on your resume.
